Voting Home / Not Your Average Joe's
Nominated for: BEST American Bistro
There was no shortage of restaurants when Not Your Average Joe's first opened in 1994. There was, however, a shortage of great restaurants with reasonable prices in the suburbs.
In fact, if you ask founder Steve Silverstein why he started Not Your Average Joe's, he'll tell you it's because he longed for someone to create the kind of restaurant he'd want to eat at near his suburban home. He was tired of going to the "big city" to get good food, and he didn't like paying so much for the privilege. When nobody came forward, he figured he'd just have to build it himself.
The name Not Your Average Joe's came out of his determination to create something other than the same old run-of-the-mill place. He wanted to create a concept that wouldn't get lost in the "chain blur." A place that had great food at great prices and where guests would feel special without putting on special clothes. He wanted to create a true neighborhood restaurant, one where everyone knew your name.
A glass of Rose. Fabulous $1.50 oysters. And, a view to die for. Priceless!

Their seasonal menu, especially the locally sourced summer menu, is amazing. Plus they have the best Birthday award from any loyalty program.
