Nominated for: BEST Meteorologist

Matt Noyes Boston MA

Monday through Friday Morning Meteorologist on NECN weather, covering all of New England. On-air 5-10 AM, daily. On Facebook at http://Facebook.com/MattNoyesFanPage & Twitter at http://twitter.com/MattNoyesNECN

Biography:
Chief Meteorologist Matt Noyes joined the NECN family in 2002. A native of Haverhill, MA, who still lives in his hometown, Matt is a graduate of Cornell University and Phillips Academy Andover, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. A member of the American Meteorological Society, Matt enjoys igniting passion and curiosity, for weather and the world around us, in others.

Noyes has been an instructor of Meteorology at the college level, and over his career, has shared his weather knowledge and enthusiasm with over 120,000 students of all ages. Matt's dedication to our region's schools brought a commendation from the Massachusetts State Senate, and he has delivered those same efforts on-air, through his weathercasts, reports and interactive viewer segments. Noyes has always believed in offering the viewer more - from first delivering regular, hour-by-hour rain/snow maps in the Boston market years ago, to pioneering NECN's exclusive 10-day forecast today.

Matt's community work has earned him several awards, including the Massachusetts State Police Public Service Award for assisting in preparation for a major hurricane strike to New England. Matt also provided his services to the State Police for street level weather forecasting and analysis during the Democratic National Convention in 2004, and his efforts to raise awareness for military Veterans and families earned him the Patriot Award from the Ahern Charitable Foundation.

Noyes has conducted private forecasting for aviators, providing forecasts that have led to national victories in races requiring no use of instrumentation during flight.

Before joining the NECN family, Matt was a meteorologist at NewsChannel 34 in Binghamton, NY, and NewsChannel 9 in Syracuse.

The entire NECN weather team is the best! Take that from someone who works outdoors and hasn't been disappointed yet! If it weren't for these gifted professionals I'd otherwise have to expect the opposite of what everyone else predicts.

When all other stations have the same surface-information to offer, matt goes beyond, explaining it in detail, to detailed locations and non-stop-Love his live stream...so helpful during bad weather!

Matt's coverage during the Springfield tornado a few years back was incredibly professional and accurate - he was telling people in towns the other stations' meterologists couldn't even pronounce "Okay, get in the basement NOW, it's going to be over you in about 4 minutes!"

Matt is amazing. He explains exactly how he determined his forecast and gets really excited about big weather events. Passionate and informative. And that little new England accent comes a out a little bit when he's explaining something exciting-- how loveable.

He just doesn't forecast - he explains the weather scientifically but without being boring and academic. It's obvious he's passionate about the weather from a tornado in Westfield, to peak foliage seaason he's always excited and fun to watch.
