Voting Home / Brattle Street Theatre
Nominated for: BEST Indie Cinema
The Brattle Theatre at historic Brattle Hall inspires a kind of nostalgia verging on worship. For anyone who has browsed through the building's subterranean retail shops, or been introduced to Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, or Jean-Luc Godard in its 250-seat theatre, that is the sine qua non of the structure, the Brattle is full of memories, part of our collective unconscious. Each month, the Brattle puts together a packed schedule or indy films and classics. Tickets are sold by cash or check ($20 minimum for checks). Sorry, credit or debit cards are not accepted at this time, however there is an ATM located next door at Wainwright Bank.
The projection come from BEHIND the screen at this theater! Best selection of films - unexpected and educational and enjoyable.

BEEN going to this lil hole down the stairs on Brattle Street for years. Still remember the brown bag popcorn. The balcony still conjures memories from years ago.

Rich variety of films, wonderful space, other great events like the now annual Cambridge Community Chorus Messiah sing-along, a sense of continuity with the past that expensive boutiques and shoe shops have all but driven from Harvard Square (along with bookshops, the Tasty, Elsie's and a really vibrant mix of people).

Now middle aged, I've been going to the Brattle for decades and it has never caved in to the burgeoning pressures of showing crap. Thank you!
