There's been a lot of chatter about the Boston burger scene these days. But how do you define a Boston burger? Old-fashioned pub burgers or those new fangled West-coast burgers? In the quest to find the #1 burger in Boston, voters left no bun unturned; thin burgers, thick burgers, turkey burgers and even veggie burgers. Voters didn't discriminate.
30 nominees competed for the title of Boston's Best this year. In the end, the Top 5 Finalists were the same 5 as last year, but the order changed. With over 700 votes, when it comes to burgers, one thing is clear: Boston is no slouch.
We won't keep you waiting any longer...here are the Top 5 Finalists for BEST Burger on the 2012 Boston A-List:
RF O'Sullivan's may not appear much from the outside, but this Somerville neighborhood bar puts together some of the finest burgers in the city. The signature thick patties are among the most unique burgers in the Boston area and Kristin Z. really appreciates that the patties are "hand made in front of you!" Andre H. favors the "big, juicy bacon cheeseburger" but warns to "bring plenty of napkins." And Billy W. is all but certain that he has found "the holy grail of burgers."
RF O'Sullivan's; 282 Beacon St, Somerville, MA 02143; (617) 492-7773
BBC opened up in April 2009 overlooking Somerville's hip Davis Square. The idea was simple: great burgers with a ton of topping options. It's safe to say voters fell in love. Brianna B. gushes "coming from a West Coaster...this place takes the cake for Best Burger in Boston." Laura R. provides some guidance and gives us the whole picture: "burgers go great with a side of fried pickles. If you have trouble deciding from the 20 menu options, just go for the hot mess burger!"

Bartley's Burger Cottage has been a Harvard Square institution and favorite of Harvard students, staff and alumni since 1960. Creative burger combinations, kitschy political decor and a no-nonsense attitude make Bartley's a perennial contender. Jenn R. can't help but channel Homer Simpson "mmmmmm," while Kate L. offers some sage advice: "don't be freaked out by the huge menu and risky sounding combos, step outside your comfort zone and try something new!"
Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage; 1246 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138; (617) 354-6559
Tasty Burger moved into an old gas station over by Fenway and has taken the neighborhood by storm. Jen F. thinks that Tasty Burger is "large and in charge" while Daniel O. thinks the "great prices, amazing burgers and old time feel make Tasty Burger the place to go if you are near Fenway."
Tasty Burger; 1301 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02215; (617) 425-4444
On the other side of Fenway in the heart of Kenmore, UBurger has been pleasing BU students, Fenway Faithful and Kenmore Square residents since 2006. Since then, UBurger has expanded with additional locations on the Boston Common and in Allston. And with good reason, just ask Angela H. who thinks UBurger has the "Most delicious burgers and fries and everything on the menu, EVER!" Hanna F. agrees, adding "Boom Burger = Boom," while Judy K. says she "can't walk past a UBurger shop without going in and ordering!"
