Manna Massage

Nominated for: BEST Massage

Manna Massage 358 Chestnut Hill Ave, #207 Brighton MA (617) 901-1311

Manna massage is dedicated to creating meaningful and sustainable change in each client's soft tissue. The work at Manna Massage is based on the premise that enhanced body awareness is the first step to symptom relief and wellness. The beauty of bodywork is that each practitioner brings his or her unique approach to a massage session. Each client and practitioner forms a unique working relationship, so finding the right fit is critical to successful bodywork. Anna Mulholland, founder of Manna Massage, meets with her clients to discuss the type of massage that will best meet their needs. After earning her diploma in Muscular Therapy in 2006 from the Cortiva Institute in Boston, Anna completed her Structural Integration training with the CORE Institute in November 2008, before opening Manna Massage. At Manna Massage, Anna specializes in several significant components of Therapeutic Massage: Myofascial Therapy: This form of therapy involves releasing tension through manipulating the “deep” fascia. The goal of this type of bodywork is to dissipate muscular tension and rebalance the body. In many cases, Anna will analyze a client’s posture and recommend specific stretches or movements to support the benefits of Myofascial Therapy. Trigger Point Therapy: This form of Massage is also known Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), which provides relief for clients who are suffering from painful, acute spasms in their muscles. The technique involves applying static finger pressure to the affected area, breaking the rhythm of the spasm and diminishing pain. Structural Integration: Think of Structural Integration as the “big picture” result of Therapeutic Massage. This means that as the soft tissue or fascia is worked on, the body is given space to realign itself in a healthy manner. Often tension, injuries, and physical and emotional trauma are “held” by the soft tissue resulting in chronic pain and discomfort. Structural Integration creates balance and ease of motion in the entire body. Pregnancy Massage: Pregnant women suffer from everyday tensions and pre-existing injury patterns as well as ligament laxity and additional strains from the postural changes that occur during pregnancy. Pregnancy Massage is gentle and safe, and provides relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and myofascial pain — especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs. Manna Massage is located in Brighton's Cleveland Circle and accessible from all three branches of the Green line (B line at Chestnut Hill Avenue, C line at Cleveland Circle and D line at Reservoir, refer to the map). There’s plenty of on-street metered parking available. Anna takes clients by appointment only. Please contact her at (617) 901-1311 to book your appointment today! Anna is a fantastic deep tissue massage therapist. Most importantly, her work is truly remedial. More important than just feeling relaxed while receiving the massage, I feel better and free of pain when I leave.

Her focus on fascia can be very intense. "Hurts so good" is the best way to describe her work. Still, she encourages communication about your needs and respects your pain threshold.

While some people have strong feelings about talking v. not talking during massage, Anna is interested in her clients and interesting herself. She is very adaptable....and it is easy to make small talk or big talk or no talk with her. If you have questions about physiological problems or more, even if they seem silly or obvious, she is a great wealth of information. Additionally, she will offer postures, tools, and exercises to help you to support yourself. This is not in a gimmicky way at all, but very helpful.

Even though I consider the practice of yoga a type of self-massage, there are some aches, pains, crimps, and crinkles that can be impossible for one to work out on their own. Anna can get rid of some very serious cobwebs.

In scheduling appointments, she is prompt and very accommodating. Prices are reasonable; student discounts and street parking are plentiful.

Manna Massage is terrific. Anna is good at what she does; she's strong, smart, straightforward, sensitive and funny. She gears her treatment to specific issues and I have seen tangible improvement in my back since she began her treatments.

Anna's care and attention to her clients needs puts her in a category by herself so to have her talents listed under something superficial like beauty/massage is not accurate.
Wellness/massage would be more accurate. I appreciate the her schedule is so flexible. I've had massages morning, noon or night on any day of the week depending on my hectic schedule. Very convenient location too
